BMW R 1200 R “Touring Special” Announced

Submitted by OWD News on Friday, 24 July 2009Comment

BMW R 1200 R with "Touring package"BMW Motorrad announces the R 1200 R “Touring Special”, expanding the 109 bhp naked “Boxer” flat twin’s comfort and travel/touring qualities and a slight facelift.

With the “Touring Special” package, the R 1200 R will have an on-board computer but also heated grips and a main stand. Adding to the tour-aility, the R 1200 R will sport a new comfort seat exclusive to the package. As in the standard version, the seat height is 800 millimetres but with an inner leg length of 1840 mm (standard version: 1800 mm). The needs of tall riders, long forgotten in an effort to placate the short-inseamed masses, are met by the optional high comfort seat with a height of 830 mm and an inner leg length of 1860 mm.

The Sport windshield will reduce the naked-bike windblast over longer stretches, while two 32-litre common locking panniers and a luggage rack will ensure you’ve a fresh change of undies when you get where you’re going.

The “Touring Special” package can be combined with all the standard paint finishes of the R 1200 R, and adds a bit of visual flair with chrome exhaust system and the LED direction indicators. Of course, the extensive BMW options list is ready and waiting to help you individualize your bike.
