Ducati Multistrada 1200 Official Photos Leaked from MOTOCICLISMO?
The site BMWMotos.com has posted “leaked” photos of the Ducati Multistrada 1200, in plain and S model garb, prior to the bikes unveiling in Milan on November 9th,2009. In reality the photos were linked from the Italian magazine MOTOCICLISMO‘s servers, lending them credibility. The same set of photos appear badged on the site MC24, but we suspect that the MOTOCICLISMO pics are the precursors to these, so there seems to be multiple leaks from the sieve. Mind you, considering how tight lipped Ducati’s been over the other machines to be announced at Milan, one can’t discount a very strong marketing strategy at work.
While these do look like the real deal, we’re still holding out hope for a few surprises, because to be honest the look is… uhm… “challenging”. We’re also hoping that the luggage is very heat resistant, given the position of the topmost exhaust for the right hand hard case. Perhaps it will become known as the clothing warmer? While we’re looking at the up side, maybe the bike will look better in person.

There was much speculation that Ducati was building a challenger to BMWs 1200GS, but clearly, this bike is an entirely different beast.
I think what we have here could be a brilliant sport touring bike. Comfy riding position, heated hard luggage, and great suspension. To me, this bike comes across as a Hypermotard for the real world.
As far as looks go, I think it’s definitely prettier than the first generation Multistrada, though that’s not saying much.
I’m in the market for a new sport-tourer and was seriously considering Honda’s new VFR 1200 thinking it would be fairly well-priced. But I’m hearing rumors it may be priced in BMW (aka Ducati) territory…if so, I will be taking a close look at the new Multistrada…I like the look, love the motor and have been missing my old ST4s ever since I sold it…this bike could be a game-changer for me.
